5 Simple Money Saving Travel Tips
If you want to get the best prices for travel, like flights, accommodation, rental cars, and so even, then you need to know what some of the best ways to find good deals are. When you spend less, it means that you will be able to travel more, and will have more cash to experience things like local food, culture, and activities. Not only that, but being able to properly budget for your travels makes a big difference too, because you can only travel if you can afford to. A little know-how along the way helps to make a big difference too.
If you are planning a big trip, or want to be away working as a digital nomad, then now more than ever, is a time to do it. With some quarantine rules still in place in some places, you need to allow extra time for your trips. Not to mention that places like Barbados are offering year long visas for people coming there to live for a year as they work remotely. If you are a homeowner then it can be tricky to just up and leave, especially when you have a mortgage to pay for. Although you could always consider renting your home out to cover the costs, and even looking into secured loans to help to make your big trip or long travels a reality. No matter what you choose, here are some more tips and tricks to help you to be able to save money as you plan your travels. Here’s to the world opening up properly again and getting back to some kind of new normal.
Hotel Rooms
If you are looking for a good hotel room, then the key is to really shop around. Don’t just take the first place you can find, just because it is a pretty decent price. You need to look into location, as sometimes cheaper places will be cheaper for a reason, and having to pay for transport to get anywhere each day will add up, not to mention the time that it all takes. Sometimes it can be simpler to pay a little extra, and not have to go an hour on a train each morning to get into the city centre, for instance. With so much being online, many people will just take the website’s word for it, and not think to call the hotel itself. However, calling the hotel can be a good idea, as you may be able to get a better deal with them directly, and could even get an upgrade to a larger room, for the price you saw online. This may not always be the case, of course, but it can certainly be worth a try.
Best Days for Flight Tickets
There isn’t a hard and fast rule around airline tickets, but it is best to look for tickets around two months before you plan to fly out. That can help you to get a good price, however, the day of the week that you choose to book can also make a difference. Booking early on in the week can make a difference, as the airlines then start to adjust their fares. It can be a good idea to pay close attention to some social media channels of some airlines, as they will announce good deals, sales, and even reward programs if you want to help yourself be in with the best chance.
Rental Cars
It is a good idea, if you are needing to book a rental car, to choose the smallest car possible for your needs. Not only that, but aim to pick it up as early as possible. This won’t be possible all of the time, but if you are the last flight coming in of the day, you’re not going to get an upgrade. If you’re the first person in, then it is going to be much more possible as there will be much more choice available. Not only that, but a lot of rental cars won’t have been returned if it is early in the morning. So if there are no small cars available for you to rent, they are obliged to give you the next best. It might not always work out because of delays and scheduled flights, but if you can fix it to pick up early, it can help.
Booking a Cruise
When it comes to getting a good deal on a cruise, it is usually recommended to book a year in advance, or no less than six months in advance, in order to get the best price. When you book early, there is a high supply, but demand is pretty low. As a result, you can get some pretty good prices. As the demand increases, then so can the prices, as the cruise company can be a little more picky. However, there is an exception to the rule; if you are able to travel last minute then you can get a good deal. The ship will leave anyway, and they’d rather have the rooms full, rather than empty.
Holiday Rentals
When you are looking for somewhere to stay that is a little more home-from-home, then the idea of having to pay a large lump sum for a couple of weeks can be hard. When you divide it up to price per night, that can be pretty high. £200 per night might be more than you’d ever pay for a hotel room. However, having a rental home that sleeps eight people, for instance, means only £25 per person, per night. So when you think about it that way it isn’t that bad of a deal. If you can go with a group and split the cost, then it can help to make it much more affordable. And with kitchen appliances to use, it can make eating much more affordable too.
